HyVent™
With HyVent™ technology, The North Face can now deliver the best waterproof/breathable technology for consumers who don't want to pay a premium cost.
They incorporated this technology by utilizing a polyurethane (PU) coating that consists of a tri-component multi-layer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. This technology was lab tested in The North Face quality assurance lab to ensure the best possible durability and function. The average breathability achieved using HyVent™ is 650g/m2/24 hours on the Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate (MVTR) scale*. To test the level of waterproofness we subjected HyVent™ garments to 20 wash cycles* where on average they retained over 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens Test*.
It's important to note they do not rely solely on these figures: the final stamp of approval comes from the field, the only place to get an honest evaluation of what lab-tested technology can really do. "This technology keeps me out in the storms catching the best snow long after most people have gone inside," says skier and mountaineer, Rick Armstrong. "It's just as good-if not better-than anything else on the market." HyVent™ garments have been heavily field tested for over three years with outstanding proof of long-term performance. The North Face guarantees you cannot find a more waterproof/breathable technology anywhere for this price.
* MVTR testing per ASTM E96B Upright Cup Water Method.
* Wash Cycle-Machine wash warm (105F) + detergent. Tumble dry low (145F) for 40 minutes.
* Mullens testing per ASTM D751. U.S. Federal Standard 191A-55 requires a minimum of 25psi.
* These averages are based on the results of all Fall 2002 HyVent™ fabrics. Individual results will vary depending on the weight and construction of each face fabric.

This is a great ski jacket. I've worn it on the slopes twice this year already. Pros: It's warm. I tried on a bunch of jackets; some North Face and some other brands. This one was the heaviest/warmest, but it does not feel bulky. I like the powder skirt. I feel like I'm not going to get snow inside anywhere when I wipe out. It's waterproof water beads up on the surface. Lastly, the material is quite durable.

Cons: I wish it had armpit zips for warm days. I would also like a few more pockets and a place to clip on my lift ticket that is near the front towards the bottom. I clip it on the zipper for the arm pocket and that's just fine. I got the blue and it's different than the picture online. It looks a lot like an electrified royal blue. Once I got over the surprise I decided I liked it.

I heart my Kira Triclimate Jacket!!!

Rating:*****

I bought this in a rosy sort of color back in July and am glad I waited until the middle of January to review it. I was happy enough with it in the autumn, when I used the inside liner jacket as my light jacket. But since having to walk through the frigid and blustery environment of downtown Buffalo, I'm absolutely IN LOVE WITH THIS JACKET!!!! I hate, hate, hate winter because I can't stand to be cold. This jacket has made it bearable for me. I don't even feel the wind - except on my face. And I can just zip the jacket all the way up, tuck my nose behind it and let my breath keep me warm. And then there are all this pockets everywhere! I seem to still be discovering them! I'll never go with a cheapy jacket again. Though, this one seems like it's built to last anyway.

along the northern border

The jacket is made of lighter insulation than what i though it would be. Where I live in Northern Minnesota it gets 40 below 0. So to keep warm with this jacket I needed to wear one more layer or liner.
On days where it's warm at around 15 below 0 and anything above that then the normal 2 layers of clothing works great with the jacket.
I like the pocket on the sleeve. I do wish it would have one more chest pocket on it. Another plus to this jacket over my other Northface jacket is the liner sleeves are made of a nylon fabric instead of the fuzzy fabric so I can wear a sweater and put my arm in the sleeve with out playing tug of war with the jacket.

Warm

Rating:*****

I thought it might be a bit warmer, however if I wear one more medium layer it works great. I live in Colorado and am outdoors a lot, the jacket has worked great for skiing, shoveling snow, snowshoeing, and hiking. I really like the jacket but would have liked the main pockets to be a little bit bigger. The shell is wonderful, I can just wipe it off and it looks great. Very stylish jacket as well as functional, I always have trusted The North Face brand and they haven't failed me on the Kira Jacket either.

Love it so far!

I ordered this coat back in October and it FINALLY got cold enough here in VA to wear it (we're having a freaky warm winter). It is amazing! It looks super cute on, is extremely warm, and is the most waterproof (besides a raincoat) coat I have ever owned! It was 40 degrees and pouring the other night and I was toasty warm! I am 5'6" and 130 lbs and ordered a small and it is perfect! I got the black and it makes me look like a penguin (in a good way).

Great service!

Rating:****

I ordered this jacket and got it just as our weather turned brutal...freezing temperatures with wind. The coat kept me warm with both layers yet didn't feel like a heavy coat. It was comfy and feminine fitting. However, I discovered the zipper that attached the hood was broken so I had to send it back. I love how easy returns are with Backwoods...extremely convenient! And in the case of the jacket arriving with a flaw, they paid for the return shipping...no problem. I would definitely order from Backwoods again.

Love It!

I had some problems ordering with another not so great store (Very Unhelpful!) So when I had questions when trying to order again(this time through moosejaw) I got a very helpful response! This jacket is great, lightweight and very warm, not bulky like a lot of my previous winter jackets. Love the zip in, and love that I can zip my other compatible liners right into the shell. Thank you Moosejaw for answering all my questions!

It looks and feels great!

My husband bought me this jacket and I love it. It looks so nice and feels great. There is a liner inside that can be worn as a light jacket. Very nice quality with North Face. I have a older cheaper ski jacket that just cant compare with this one. Great jacket ,well worth the price.

The Coat

Rating:*****

I bought this coat for my daughter who has been wanting a Northface for coat for a few years now. She loves it and all the hidden pockets. I personally like the 3 in 1 wear. She said the coat is very warm. Maybe one day i'll purchase me one.

Great Coat!

I really love the look of this jacket and it was perfect for skiing in Colorado. I don't really like the inside jacket -- I was really hoping it was a polar fleece! but its warm, cute, and waterproof, so I can't complain much.
