Hyvent™ Technology:North Face incorporated this technology by utilizing a polyurethane (PU) coating that consists of a tri-component multi-layer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. This technology was lab tested in The North Face quality assurance lab to ensure the best possible durability and function. The average breathability achieved using HyVent™ is 650g/m2/24 hours on the Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate (MVTR) scale. To test the level of waterproofness TNF subjected HyVent™ garments to 20 wash cycles where on average they retained over 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens Test.
Chimney Venting™The North Face Chimney Venting™ system dramatically improves airflow through the pant, reducing both heat and humidity while greatly improving breathability. The strategic placement of stretch mesh on the upper portion of the gaiter allows cool, dry air to flow in the bottom of the pant while warm, moist air escapes through the upper thigh vent. This system produces continuous airflow and temperature management.
Free Fit:A relaxed, contemporary fit, cut gererously through the seat, thighs, knees, and cuff. Free Fit pants offer maximum mobility, flexibility and a smooth, easy style.

North Face hasnt let me down yet

Rating:*****

Got these pants bc i dont ski very often and didnt feel like dropping too much cash on some ski pants. Went to park city for four days of full day skiing and couldnt be happier with this product. Temps and conditions ranged from 30's and sunny and dropped to low teens and dumping snow, but it didnt matter. I was comfortable in all conditions (i used the north face long johns on the cold days). Now i use them as a cold weather jogging pant in North Florida in temps ranging from 25 - 40. Very comfortable, just a little noisy. Im a fairly lean 6'2 and 185 lbs. and it felt like the waist was snug at first but was never uncomfortable on the slopes or running with the large, normal length. Support this company, as it is amazing.

Very Nice

Rating:*****

Since these are the uninsulated version i doubt they have the heatseeker eco like it says they do, however they do have a nice brushed poly lining. The outer material is very very durable and they block wind and snow fully. I've never had to use them on a rainy day so i can't attest to the waterproofness of them. They don't offer tons of warmth but the relaxed fit means you can layer all you want. When you're doing work and those legs start burnin these pants have the best ventilation system ever. Between the ankle vents (uncloseable), the side knee vents and the fly you can customize breathablilty. Great pant for the price. I am six feet tall and weigh 160 lbs. and the medium fits great(thanks to a little help from the waist pull tabs!)

Good pants, would only change a thing or two

Rating:*****
For the most part i love these pants, they are warm, water proof, and they get the job done. What i like: they have elastic velcro straps around the waist which is really easy to tighten up, also they have the vents down the side of the leg which help me to stay cool when it gets a little warmer. Something i didn't like: the elastic that is around the leg gaiter that goes inside your boot is once size, its not adjustable like it was on my pair of columbia snow pants. Also the pant-a-locks system is nice, but not as nice as it could be, it clips onto 3 belt loops, where as something like burton zips on, the north face system still has gaps between the belt loops.

Party in my Pants

Rating:*****

I really liked skiing in these bad boys - they're a run-of-the mill ski pant that gives you the right options without an insane price tag. The front pocket's good for stashing bulkier stuff - velcro closure is solid but i wouldn't put my keys in it. The venting system is pretty smart in how provides a gaiter that keeps the snow out but lets air flow most of the way up your leg. Knees are a little articulated for comfort and there's a fleecy lining (NOT insulated). There's an extra layer of canvas where your boots rub together for durability too. Adjustable waist straps are a must if you're skiing over the holidays and grandpa won't lend you his suspenders.
Usually wear a 32"/32" and the Med/Reg was right on.

These are great pants that block the chill and are comfortable

Rating:*****
I ordered a large for my massive 5'10" frame and while the large are alittle long and big(belt loops present along with the ability to tighten the pants with velcro straps on the pants) they allow me to wear a layer underneath them not because a layer is needed but because of the situations I wear them in. I was alittle worried by the heaviness of the pant and the possibility that I might self combust due to their insulation. Luckily I didnt self combust and the side vents on the pants actually work to cool you off and the weight of the pant was a no issue.

Good for Hiking, Too!

Rating:*****

Just picked up a pair last weekend. I tried them on, bought them, and tested them on a 3-mile hike on the Appalachian Trail up the backside Bromley Mountain (Vermont's Sun Mountain!). They were well ventilated with the side vents, and allowed for great freedom of movement. It was about 20 degrees, and I was just wearing some synthetic boxers underneath. At the top, I strapped on my board and had a great run down the mountain. Went the long way so I could get in as many turns as possible, and these pants were killer. When I got home, I didn't want to take them off!

Comfortable, seem durable, happy with purchase

Rating:****

I have worn these pants out sledding with my kids and to blow the snow off of the driveway a few times. The bottoms of the legs are reinforced so they don't ravel if they are stepped on. The waist closure is reinforced with Velcro tabs to keep the snap snapped. Overall these seem to be well made. They fit me well. I bought XXL and am on the larger side of XXL and they fit nicely. This is the only XXL ski pant under $300 that I found in a short inseam, so I am happy that I like them so well.

Awesome pants

Rating:*****

I bought these pants in the first place because I was on the budget. I didn't expect anything extraordinary, but these pants didn't let me down. They were comfortable, not too warm not too cold (temperature was around 30F). I never thought of them and I think this is the best compliment one can give to a piece of gear.

One side note though, I originally purchased size Large Long, but they turned out to be too long, so I had to exchange them for a Normal length. Those fit perfectly. I am 6' 0" tall, 182 lb.

North Face Freedom Pant

Rating:****

Have used these pants twice now. Once it was really cold and snowy, layered with long johns and was perfectly comfortable. The other day it was very warm and wet, kept 100% dry. Love the thigh vents. The pants are extremely comfortable and seem very durable. My only complaint is that I wish it had more pockets, there is only one pocket on the right front thigh along with the two zip pockets on the hip. I love these pants though. I am 6', 170 lbs, I bought the medium and they fit perfectly. No regrets here.

Great Pants

Rating:*****

These pants fit very well without being overly baggy or too tight. I am 5' 8.5" with a 30 waist and the size small goes right to the bottom of my boot without overlapping. I have been out in 15 degree temperatures with only a midweight base layer underneath and remained comfortable (these are the uninsulated version). As far as features, for smaller well groomed northeastern resorts these pants offer plenty of protection and pockets and vent well for the price! Anything else or more expensive would be overkill. The choice of colors is great too.

Negative Reviews:

Too much "relaxed fit" for me

Rating:**

I tried these on and I did not like the relaxed fit. I wanted them for alpine skiing. They seemed more like a snowboarding pant. I am 6'1" and 170 lbs. there just seemed to be way too much material in the knees and pant legs. I ordered the TNF Liberation pants instead--these are supposed to have a standard fit. The Liberation is $178 and the Freedom pant is $128. I would have preferred to pay less, but I didn't like the relaxed fit.

Don't buy, not worth the price.

THESE PANTS ARE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Started soaking after only about 10 days of normal wear.
