For being 5'3" and slim but curvy...

Rating:****

I scoured the reviews on here to see if anyone was my shape and size, and bought the black in a size small based off other's reviews. I've bought other North Face products in size small, so I figured it was a pretty safe bet. This guess further validated why I don't place bets.

I'm 5'3", around 125 pounds, and a fairly classic hourglass (if not oversized) figure with 32DD chest, 27" waist, and about 35" hips. My experience with the fit? Kind of puffy on in the shoulder/upper arm area, plenty of room in the bust (much to my surprise) and belly, a good mid-booty length, and a slight poof in the middle/upper back if viewed from the side. All around, there was just a little TOO much room in it for me.

And the other details? Love the fabric - it is shiny but not as blindingly high-gloss as I'd almost dreaded to find based on other reviews. Definitely cozy-warm... and I live in Milwaukee.

I'm going to exchange it for an extra small and give that a go. Might try the blue since I see that color is available...

I'll be sure to write a follow-up review for us shorties =)!

Amazing!

Rating:*****

It is snowing here in my part of Texas today (very rare), so I put on my new NF jacket (over a very thin shirt) and took my puppy outside to see his first snow. I was so toasty warm, it was amazing. Unlike my other (not-as-nice) down jacket, I cannot feel the wind or cold air getting through this jacket at all. As far as fitting goes, I am 5'6.5", 120 lbs, small chested (32 A), and I bought a small. It fits a little larger in the torso than I would like, but the sleeves are JUST right, so I fear an XS would be too short in the sleeves. However, the extra room in the torso is good if I ever want to wear a sweater or anything beneath it, or for women with larger chests. Also, the black is an incredibly beautiful shiny black that I just love - it matches my (black lab) puppy's extremely shiny black coat!

Great jacket!

Rating:*****

I'm really enjoying my jacket. I live in South Carolina, where it's not too terribly cold in the winter, although I was getting cold in my TNF Denali and this jacket has been a great step up. When I first got the jacket, I thought it would be too thin, but it's actually worked great for me. I wore the jacket in the Midwest during the holidays, and I thought it did a pretty good job of keeping me warm then as well, except when the windchill was at -30, but I don't know what kind of coat could keep you warm at those temperatures. I normally run very cold, but my Aconcagua jacket has done a good job of keeping me warm--now it's just my legs that are cold, which is a welcome change. The outer shell has also done a great job of repelling the hair of my Shetland Sheepdog, which is a huge plus.

I agree with the previous comment, a bit big but warn.

Rating:****

I measured myself to make sure that it would fit. I thought this would be a little more form fitting. However, I received it and it's a little big. I decided to keep it anyway because (1) it's warm and I can put one of my big sweaters/sweatshirts on under it, and (b) the sleeves hit just right and if I go one size down, I suspect that the trade-off would be shorter sleeves which means cold arms. Overall, I am happy with it, just wish it was more form fitting (which is what would have earned it the fifth star). Oh, and Backcountry's service was fabulous on this order. I received it extremely quickly despite choosing the free shipping option which is UPS Basic. This means it's shipped via UPS to a post office near you. Then the USPS carrier delivers the package to your house.

TNF Aconcagua Jacet Womens

Rating:****

Wonderful jacket. However, as others mentioned it runs small in the waist and hips. Perhaps it is designed for a taller person to fall at the waist? It also runs too large in the shoulder and back. It should be designed to fit the basic female form; and not so squared off and tapered in the waist and hip area. I am extremely petite, just under 5 feet, 117 lbs; 27 inch waist, and this jacket feels a bit too snug in the waist and hips; and too loose in the shoulders and back; so it tends to ride up when sitting down. Also, TNF should offer the Aconcagua in a longer style to cover the rear. Short jackets are great for sports. However, longer jacekets are better for everydau wear.

LOVE IT! Sizing issue

Rating:*****

I bought this jacket (at Dick's) in xsmall for my grandaughter for Christmas - she is 12, approx. 5'2",about 100 lbs. - generally wears a junior size 0 - the jacket was really short - arms short as well and a little tight all over - she loved it and wanted to keep it anyway but as fast as she is growing, I ordered it in a medium - it is probably a touch big but maybe it will last until next year...the measurements listed for the small were such a VERY little bit bigger than the xsmall although I imagine the small would have been just right for now...can't imagine there is an adult out there who could wear an xsmall..
To sum up, she absolutely LOVES THE JACKET!

Love this jacket

Rating:****

This is a great jacket. I love the purple color. I've gotten tons of compliments. As for size, I first ordered a small. The sleeves were way too short and the body was a bit short too. I am almost 5'6" and 128 lbs. The medium fits much better. I would have given this 5 stars if the body was a little longer (even in the medium). The weight of the jacket is nice. I would say I'm comfortable at temps down to about 25 or even down to the high teens if I won't be out long. The body of the jacket could be a little more fitted but this way it lets me put a thicker sweater on underneath. All is all it is great jacket!!!!

Black jacket seems smaller!

Rating:*****

I still give this jacket 5 stars because the two others I have fit fine, but for some reason when I purchased this jacket in a black (xs), it was very tight around the hip area.. I tried a (sm) and it was way to big, so I guess somewhere along the line, someone wasn't paying attention in quality control. On the bright side, I ordered the North Face Transit Jacket in black (xs) and it fit perfect!! Love it, love it, it's toasty warm and stylish! In case anyone is looking for measurements, I am 5,1", 112 lbs and chest is 34D! Hope this helps someone else!!!

Awesome Jacket!

Rating:*****

I originally bought this jacket in a small. It was too big in the shoulder/upper arm area, and a bit puffy in the upper back. I ordered another in a xs and it fit perfect. I only wish the jacket overall was a little bit longer. Still the best jacket I have ever owned, it's stylish, not bulky, very slimming and toasty warm. I am 5'1 and weigh 111 pounds. Bust size 34D. The size chart says an xs fits up to a 32 but this xs jacket fit me just fine. Thanks Backcountry. I will order this jacket in another color next year!

Not too puffy- great everyday jacket

Rating:*****

This jacket is a great everyday jacket. It is not too puffy like a lot of "puffer" style jackets, and it is still warm. I think it runs pretty true to size but if you are between 2 sizes, I would go with the larger. The smaller sizes run pretty short in the waist and the sleeves, so the larger sizes would work better if you are taller.
I ordered the red and it is a bold but pretty red, not too shiny but it does have some shine to it.
I think most people would love this jacket!

A Little Disappointed

Rating:*

Looking at the picture, and not being very familiar with NorthFace but my kids like it, I thought it would be alot thicker than it is, the coat is paper thin, I have no idea if it will be warm enough for a chicago winter, I don't know how this could be called a down jacket. Not sure if I should return it or just wait until christmas and let them try it, I ordered three and am very concerned. I was so excited when I ordered them thinking they are going to love these. Got the box and thought they must be shipping them separate but to my surprise all three were in there, if anybody can help me out and raise my confidence because I was so excited about these coats just to be very disappointed......

Not long enough

Rating:**

I'm fairly tall (6') and I was really hoping this jacket would work for me. Unfortunately, the sleeves were way too short. I was also looking for a nice toasty jacket for those cold camping nights and didn't really feel warm enough.

Not warm enough

Rating:***

I live in Syracuse, NY which (according to wikipedia) gets more snow than any other U.S. city. I ended up returning my coat because I would probably end up buying another once January hit. The sleaves were too short, something I read in other reviews. Also, the sleaves do not have cuffs so cold air is more likely to sneak in. The outer fabric seems really durable and the plum color is hip. As far as a packable coat, it is light but there are a lot of stiff seams that make it tougher to smash down. The staff helped me decide between two other coats: Marmot sweater (which is not a sweater) and a Columbia jacket, both of which are 800 fill. I got the Columbia jacket because it came in the dark cherry color and am so far happy with it except the feathers do come out the seams.

Almost worked out...

Rating:***

I really wanted this jacket to work out. I'm 5'8 120 lbs, 33 chest and ordered the Knight Purple in a size small. The color was really beautiful, and the jacket was soft and very warm and cozy. The length was pretty standard for North Face jackets, and the overall width of the jacket was nice and feminine-cut, but there were several aspects of the fit that were strange. 1.) As some reviewers have mentioned, the back of the jacket does poof out quite a bit. 2.) The upper arms are VERY wide. I don't have twig-like arms, but the width of the upper arm region of the jacket was twice as wide as it should have been. A jacket that would otherwise have been beautiful and slim-fitting ended up looking quite frumpy. Sadly, I am sending this back.

This jacket is like a dumb blonde

Rating:***

It looks great but has little substance... It you want to look hip and be somewhat warm, buy this jacket. My overall opinion of North Face is that it has become more of a status symbol than a piece of functional clothing. I have been a fan for years but it is time for me to move on. I wish I could tell North Face that "it's not you, it's me" but that is not the case. The jacket is functionally akward for any type of outdoor sport however it is great if you want to look good at your local organic farmer's market. I have to say that I love the color and wish the old North Face would resurface...

Disappointed ...

Rating:***

This jacket fits true to size and the outside fabric is thick satin-like. I have the purple color, the fabric is stiff and shiny. The jacket is heavier than I expected and not sure it is suitable for travelling ... and those logos on the front and back, including the writings on the sleeves is a bit too much. The jacket, when on, reminds me of the inside liner of a coat. There are tabs on the sleeves as attachments to a shell, so it appears, this is a liner with its shiny, satin fabric and diamond quilted patterns;also, shorter sleeves and body. No, I would not wear this as a jacket!

Size was odd...

Rating:***

Nice coat, I was questioning what size to order after reading all the reviews so I asked the online "expert" and she told me I would fit in a small comfortably because I am have a 34" chest. The coat came today and it is too small! Sleeves are short, short in the back and it felt really snug when I zipped it up. I am returning it for a medium with hopes it will fit better. I am 5' 6", 125 lbs. Hope this helps anyone with size questions....

Love apprearance, hate the outside stitching.

Rating:***
Was really excited about the color and the jacket itself when it arrived. Got disappointed when after only two wearings noticed a stitch had started to unravel and ultimately would continue to unravel, really and truly hope this does not continue to take place in other areas as I wear it. I purchased fabric glue to try and stop the one stitch from continuing and ruining my gift.

Unflattering fit - Pretty and warm jacket, but the fit is horrible. It is a big rectangle, with no shaping for the female body. Very unflattering. I expected this to fit closer to the body with a bit of shaping in at the waist, so I'm returning it.
Autumn at Zappos.com on 12/22/2008

Almost, but not quite

The fit to the jacket is somewhat boxy -- almost cut more for a man than a woman. Also, the plum color was more rose than violet. Pretty but not my color.
