Need a bit more

Rating:****
I love the style, make, and quality of Patagonia wear but was left wishing for more with this coat. As a shell, this coat could work wonderfully - it will keep you dry and protect you from the wind. As a jacket, this coat definitely needs more insulation for the price. I just bought the coat this weak and have been testing it out in the -15 degree weather we are having here in MN. I wore the same layers I usually wore with my old poofy coat but could feel the chill creeping through in my short walk to work. To stay warm you will need your baselayers, middleweight layer, and a bulky warm layer as well for insulation. Finally, as far as length, this coat (like most coats I come across) falls just below my pant line. It does have a nice dip in the back but could use another inch or two all around to keep the wind out when moving around.

untested but great so far

Rating:*****
Have not tested the capabilities of this jacket yet, but am reviewing the fit and feel. The jacket, as described has many spaces, zippers, quilting and fleecing for comfort. The fleece on the mouth/throat area is appreciated as are the extra long arms. I am 5/8 125 pounds slim fit and ordered a medium. It is perfect as I a have broad shoulders and the signature radial Patagonia arms give me the room I need. the fit is comfortable, not snug and very feminine for a winter jacket. The material is gorgeously matte and does not make a scratchy sound when rubbed together. The outsides of the sleeves are longer providing great protection for the hands. I have no doubts about the patagonia quality come heavy winter.

Keeps you warm and dry-even around town

Rating:*****
Ended up wearing this all last winter for walking my dogs in 0 degree temps and now using it this year to walk 2+ miles to and from work. Layered with a vintage Patagonia fleece and whatever I'm wearing (and sometimes a Capilene 3), this has kept me beyond warm. The neck gasket provides warmth and protection I badly need for my face, H2No keeps you dry, while the fitted body looks chic and flattering. I'm 5'2, so the arms reach inches beyond my hands but it's rarely a bother, while the body length isn't even an issue. This is a jacket you'll have for years to come and well worth the investment.
Sarah at Moosejaw (Fall 2009) on 12/10/2009

Not quite insulated enough

Rating:****
Wore it alpine skiing in some somewhat chilly conditions in Colorado last week but unfortunately, it wasn't quite warm enough. Therefore, it definately won't cut the cold in MN (where I live). "Insulated" to me means much more insulation than this jacket provides. The sleeves partucularly don't have much insulation. The Down Powder Bowl Jacket would have been the ticket, but too much $ for my budget (& no Pro price on that). Warmth aside, I love the color (blue) and the pocket qty./locations are perfect for alpine skiing! And thanks very much for offering we Pro skiers special pricing!!! It's MUCH appreciated on our limited budgets!

Great!

Rating:*****
I love this coat. I had a hard time deciding between the insulated and non insulated and glad I chose the insulated. It is very warm, but light and flexible. I feel bulletproof. Heavy snow, wind and rain won't touch it. I also love the look with the contour at the waist and high collar. Very flattering. I ski 90+ days a year and finally think I found a coat that will work 90% of the time!
Michfitz at Patagonia on 12/26/2008

Top Notch

Rating:*****
Detachable hood is perfect; plenty of zippers/pockets for all the extras. Arms seem to be a little longer than other Patagonia products in the same size. Fabric is wonderful -- surprisingly soft for a waterproof jacket! Very comfortable.
Frannie at Patagonia on 12/19/2008

love it!

Rating:*****
Very warm in the body and the overall length is great. Lots of room in the arms, little insulation there. Very durable, always looks clean.

Disappointed

Rating:**
The one thing this jacket has going for it is simple style. The look is awesome; a lot of the features are sub par. After two days on the slopes the trims started to get brown (I wasn't skiing on dirty snow). The heat transfer Patagonia logo is peeling off (I've only had the jacket for 3 weeks). I was pretty excited about the bonded fleece inside the collar and back neck, however after my first use the fleece looked as though it was a year old! I bought the insulated version over the hardshell hoping it would do the trick and keep me warm. It does not. I am now looking to get a Montbell down sweater or Sierra Designs softshell to layer under it. There is one feature I like: the tall collar. It is great on the chair lift in windy conditions. Final statement: this jacket is absolutely not worth the price.

Bitter Sweet

Rating:***
I have mixed feelings on my "new" jacket. The outer shell is great - wind and waterproof for sure. The sleeves are a great length and so is the back. My problem is the length of the front of the jacket - it is too short! I bought it for snowboarding and it isn't ideal when my powder skirt is above my snow pants. I wouldn't spend that amount of money for this jacket if I knew it was short in the front. Something to consider before buying...
