Positive Reviews:| Rating: | | | This coat has a lot going for it. It's well made, toasty warm, with a detachable hood. It has deep, zip-up pockets large enough to stash gloves or even a flashlight (perfect if you walk your dog at night like I do). It has one inner pocket. The coat looks terrific both with or without the hood. In fact, I like how the hood attaches; the zip and snaps are hidden from view so that the hood and coat appear to be all one piece when you're wearing them. It's also fitted, so you won't look like the Michelin tire man when you're wearing it. I like how light it is, too; no more feeling weighted down by a heavy wool coat. The two-way zipper comes in very handy; it allows me to unzip the coat at the bottom while I'm driving or seated on the subway to allow for more room for my knees. A caveat: this coat is fitted and runs small. I'm dependably a size small, but I'm glad I listened to earlier reviewers and ordered up one size to the medium. Do the same, particularly if like me you're looking for a commuter coat that you can wear over a business suit so you stay warm waiting for the train to work. I hesitated at the price, Patagonia products are on the high side, but this coat is well worth the money, given how well made it is and how much use I know I'll get out of it in cold, snowy winters here in the Boston area. And Zappos had it here for me the next day, just in time for a major storm. Thanks, Zappos. | | Anonymous at Zappos.com (2009) on 01/02/2010 | Overall a Good Coat; Proportions a Bit Weird | | Rating: | | | The coat is stylish and keeps me warm in the wind and snow. I like the way you can adjust the hood to fit snugly around your head, regardless of your head's size or general inclinations. The feathers don't come out. The only thing about the coat is the weird proportions. I am 5' tall, about 100 pounds, and am perfectly proportioned. I don't have overly short/long arms or legs. My limbs are slightly long for my height, but totally within the normal range. I'm not fat or overly thin. I got the XS and it fits OK except that it goes down past my knees (implicating a good fit for a tall person), but the pockets are way up high on the coat, as if it were made for a person with 3/4-length arms. Don't get me wrong, I'm not prejudiced against extra small people with really short arms and really long legs, but most people probably just don't fit this bill. I think it would have been better if Patagonia had manufactured a petite XS like a couple inches shorter than the other sizes, since most XS people are not really that tall. I also think it would be better if the pockets were a little lower on the coat. | | Coat_Wearer at Altrec on 01/03/2010 | Fabulous Down Parka!!! | | Rating: | | | I purchased my Patagonia Women's Down With It Parka in early December for use on daily walks (15-40 degrees) in the Sierras with my dog. The parka has surpassed my expectations. It is lightweight, but it fully insulates you from the cold. The two-way zipper allows you to zip open the bottom on warmer days or to accomodate a longer stride. The removable padded hood works well and adds extra warmth even when you do not have it on your head. The down padding is also an effective cushion if you inadvertently fall on an icy roadway. This parka is well constructed and has a somewhat roomy feel. You can wear a synthetic sweater or fleece vest under it, but it is warm enough over a cotton or nylon shirt. The fabric and style is dressy enough to wear to dinner or evening out. I know I will use it for many years to come. | | Anonymous at Altrec on 01/07/2009 | absolutely amazing. minus hood. | | Rating: | | | great jacket. warm, comfortable, stylish, water resistant. i usually wear a M in patagonia - this M fits great, definite slim fit (might be a little too tight for bulky sweaters or a fleece underneath. if you normally wear a M and want to wear it with a fleece under, go with the L). for me sleeves are fine, length hits just below knees (i'm 5'7"). the only thing i don't love is the hood - it sits up too high so that when i pull it on, the top of the hood is sort of floating above the top of my head while having the jacket zipped all the way can be a little choking. and no, tightening the adjustable cords doesn't help much. it's still a fabulous jacket and in spite of the hood i love it and wear it every day. i plan on it getting me through the philadelphia winter. | | lulu at Patagonia on 12/04/2008 | LOVE! | | Rating: | | | Love love love this jacket. It is my first down jacket. It is so mega warm and the feathers do not pop out at all (i have a friend with a similar jacket except when she takes it off shes covered in feathers). I wasnt sure about the size b/c im tall and thin (5'11 160lbs) but the M worked for me. Its a little bit shorter in the sleeve than i would want but the fit is trim w/o being too tight. i can wear it with most sweaters. I jsut wear gloves that have a long cuff and it works fine. The only thing i dont like is the neck is tight on me. if i zip it all the way up i feel like im choking (reason for the 4 vs 5 stars). other than that its awesome and everybody complements me on it. I have it in the dark brown. | | mearph at Patagonia on 11/20/2008 | | Rating: | | | I have this coat in the chocolate color. I would recommend the coat. Things I liked: Warmth; it kept me warm while shoveling in below zero, and I can wear it in the grocery store without overheating. Range of motion; while shoveling and walking wasn't too tight or restrictive. Looks; very shapely and color is a rich chocolate, hood zips off with a somewhat 'hidden' attachment so it doesn't look weird without hood. Zipper; Has not gotten caught on coat and zips easily. Things to be aware of: Size: it is definitely fitted; I was on the border between small and med sizes and ordered up, glad I did. Since the coat is fitted and the pockets are angled it can make accessing what's in a full pocket trickier. When zipped up at times it has rubbed against my neck, but usually goes away with readjustment. Great coat overall. | | Amanda R at Zappos.com (2009) on 12/20/2009 | | Rating: | | | I Love this coat! If you live somewhere super cold like Alaska, you might want something thicker, but Ive worn it in the snow with a few layers under it and stayed warm. The detachable hood is nice and I like the hand warmer pockets. Ive washed it and put it through the dryer and it looks like new. It is an especially good traveling coat because it is warm, but lightweight and compact. You can squish it up pretty tiny, especially with one of those space saving bags that lets all the air out... The only thing about it is I wish the hood was bigger, I usually wear a hat under it to fully cover my forehead and ears. You should try it and I bet youll love it too! | | Fuzzy K at Zappos.com (2009) on 01/16/2010 | | Rating: | | | just bought this. have worn it once. have never had a down jacket before, so let me say this:
i got in my car this morning and felt like i was still wrapped in my warm down comforter. i was wearing a t-shirt, jeans and flip flops- it was 30deg. i was not to hot and not to cold.
i went up a size when i bough this jacket, for extra maneuverability, and to have plenty of room to put a heavy fleece on underneath. this jacket is cut very nice.- i still have a waist, even with the larger size. i did not find that to be true when i tried on similar jackets from different brands. they made me a nice "barrel" shape. | | Raee at Patagonia on 10/14/2008 | Tumbs up! | | Rating: | | | This coat is perfect! This is my first long down coat. I'd worn the Patagonia Down Jacket for years, but with the current freezing temps in the Midwest I needed something better suited for hanging out at the train stop, waiting. I am 5'9", 145lbs and I orderded the Medium. It fits with a touch of wiggle room and hits just below the knee. The coat has a waist (I was afraid it won't!) and is styled to hug a woman's body nicely. The neck is only thight if you are wearing a scarf under! The hood is comfortable, but you have to pull the straps thight in order for it to stay. Buy it for the coldest days of the year!! | | Outdoorgirl907 at Patagonia on 01/30/2009 | Good Down Coat | | Rating: | | | I love this coat because it isn't bulky, but it is still warm. It is slim, but I am usually a small in Patagonia and the small has room for another fleece underneath. I don't really think a coat this warm requires a lot of layers. The only think I don't like about it is its length. I wish it were longer. I am 5'8" and it hits above my knees. I wish it hit just below. I read the review with the 5'7" woman who said it hit below her knees and was really excited for a long down coat by Patagonia. I was disappointed by the length. The sleeve length is great and overall, it is a good jacket. | | AlpineSkier at Patagonia on 12/29/2008 |
| Neutral Reviews:| Rating: | | | I'm surprised none of the other reviews mentioned how tight the neck is on this coat. I couldn't even zip it up all the way. I probably should have gotten a medium just to be safe although I definitely wear a small or extra-small in everything else. So unfortunately, I have to return it. But great service from Zappos. Ordered the coat on a Tuesday at 5:30 pm and it was delivered by 4:00 the next day! | | Anonymous at Zappos.com (2009) on 12/29/2009 | | Rating: | | | Color was not as rich as I hoped, the fabric was not as soft as my coat purchased a few years ago. My biggest complaint: they really need to add snaps or buttons as a closing option. I returned it because in order to close it you have to zip it. It was not as thick as I hoped, it looked great, however, very slimming! Need more warmth up here in AK. | | Misty L at Zappos.com (2009) on 11/04/2009 |
