2nd pair for me, but straps broke

Rating:****
This is my 2nd or 3rd pair of MSR snow shoes and I am a big fan of the fit, traction and stability of these shoes. I have never used any other brand but I attended a winter workshop where many other brands were used and my MSR shoes were the envy of the group. BIG PROBLEM however is that I am returning my 2nd pair of Denali Evo for broken straps. I am 215 lbs and an admittedly clumsy hiker, but I have not exposed these snowshoes to a lot of extreme use and yet the straps are breaking. I am exchangning them without hesitation because the last thing I want is failure while in the wilderness on a solo trip. I'll also try to get replacement straps for a back-up from MSR. But I don't want to give up the traction and stability for another brand. I also find these to be easier to adjust and get on/off than what I have seen from other snowshoers using different brands. I would consider the Lightning for their lower weight, but without confidence in the strap integrity I won't spend the extra [$].I have not had the problems other reviewers expressed. I use the tail piece for deep snow and get good flotation even with an overnight pack. I get outstanding traction and my only difficulty getting them on and off is doing so with a pack on. In fact other than the strap problem I would give this product 5 stars.

The cost:benefit ratio does not get any better, The perfect snowshoe

Rating:*****
I bought these snowshoes sometime ago, and did not think snowshoes could get any better. They provide great flotation (with the 8" tail, a must if you carry a pack) and solid traction. The only time the traction fails on these is when you should have switched to crampons a mile ago, but out of complacency, decided to see how good the traction is, it is that good. The only complaint I have had with these is that the deck does flex with a load in soft stuff. Since deciding that MSR snowshoes are the only ones worth owning, I have graduated from college and started working, meaning that I have some money to spend, so we bought my wife the lightning ascents, the little heal elevator reduces

Awesome

Rating:*****
I live in Utah so most of the places I go showshoeing have alot of rocks. I would ruin a pair of showshoes about twice a year because of the rocks. They still worked with a ton of holes in them but it just makes you mad. I tried these MSR's when i had broken mine and I just needed some shoes for the weekend. I tried them out and loved them. They are unfazed by rocks or trees or anything. Best showshoes I have tried. Well, here in Utah anyway.

a solid A

Rating:*****
these shoes rock! might be a little overkill for where i use them michigan's UP but they get the job done, and get it done right. their grip on vertical terrain is unrivaled and they float well once you get the tails attached. i would recommend these to anyone who wants a good pair of snowshoes that will work like a dream on hills but who doesn't have a huge budget

Best I've used

Rating:****
I've used these on power, drifts, packed trails, and rolling hills. They worked great on all. With powder you'll want the tails regardless of weight, but you can run efficiently in them for a great workout on packed trails and they are stable as they come. Fantastic all around durable shoe.

Excellent snowshoe

Rating:****
Ive used these shoes for 2 winter seasons and have no complaints good traction comfortable fit and I haven't personally had any issues with straps. The only negative thing is the plastic gets a little chewed up walking on rocks

Buy them!!!

Rating:*****
The MSR Denali is a very nice snowshoe. My family tried the Atlas brand only to get self-inflicted snow showers from the snowshoes. The MSRs feel comfortable and keep us much drier than the Atlas.

Highly recommend for serious winter hiking.

Rating:*****
MSR Denali Snowshoes has a lot of bites and grab when walking on hard snow surface. It's far more superior than the orginary snowshoes. When carry backpack, besure to get an 8 attachment tail.

Love 'em - Terror on the snow and ice!

Rating:*****
I like to listen to "Welcome to the Terrordome" while snowshoeing in these. With my old flimsy pair of another brand, I would listen to Norah Jones.
Justin at Moosejaw (Spring 2010) on 02/04/2007

not a bad shoe

Rating:*****
these shoes work well in all terrains. I mostly use them on long steep approaches to climbs or for quick summit romps to steep for boards.

Not as Good as Others

Rating:**
After researching several pairs of shoes I decided that were the best for me. I think I made to wrong choice. The first thing that bothered me about them were the bindings. They were fairly difficult to get cinched down in the cold weather, they seamed very brittle. After a short walk my feet were sore, almost numb where the binding met my boots. They also didn't seem to very stable my ankles were always rolling in them. I tried a pair of Atlas Backcountry and they were head over heels better for me. They were more stable and the bindings, similar to the MSR, are not near as difficult to cinch in the cold. I took both sets of shoes out and wore them for equal time over the same terrine and overall I was definitely happier with the Atlas shoes.

I wouldn't trust these. The weight distribution is just to ineffective in comparison to other snow shoes.

Great shoe except one design flaw.

Rating:***
This is a great all around shoe and very effective in all terrains. There is one serious design flaw though. If you look at the bottoms and the metal teeth, they don't run around the whole shoe. On the edges of the metal this can create stress areas for the plastic. Eventually the shoe will snap at that point.
