Positive Reviews:

This thing is great!!!

Rating:****
I have had this watch for about a week know and I am blown away. The features that this watch have are unbelievable. This can do anything from tracking pace, speed, elevation, heart rate. The best part is the wireless transfer to the computer. The software has a Google Earth overlay that is very cool. I live in the sticks and was worried about getting a GPS signal because I sometimes loose it with my satellite radio. I have had no issues with that, in fact I get a signal inside my house. The only improvements I wish it has are that there was a software disk that came with the watch rather than having to download everything from the website. I also wish that the USB antenna could store your data so you wouldn't have to download to the computer you have the software on. Overall, it’s great product that I would recommend to anyone. I have already talked one of my coworkers into getting one.

Must have for anyone!!

Rating:*****
I just used this for the first time. It is great. The distance display is very nice. No more driving my car after a run to track the distance or guessing the distance based on my time. The heart rate is also very accurate. My old heart rate monitor would shut off during my run/wasn't dependable. The best part is after the run. I can download all the info from time, elevation, heart rate etc. to my computer. I can post to facbook or e-mail it. Very easy way to track improvement. You will also get a map showing your route. The only thing that can be improved is the mile pace tracker on the watch. It may lag by about 10-15 seconds. Not a big deal, may have to do with some sort of GPS delay. It was a little hard to decide if I wanted to pay for one, but worth every penny.

Super technology, but complex interface.

Rating:****
This is really neat stuff. The capability and the data that it collects is simply mind boggling given the size of the device. We are having no problems receiving satellites. It appears to be super accurate and will collect and plot actual data, min/max, average, etc, all of which you can overlay on top of Google Earth images. Great training tool. Only negative we have is we found the watch menus to be complex and not very user friendly. There are so many options that you often get lost in the menus trying to set up the basic options. Similarly the data transfers to the computer via a wireless memory stick. Some times we have to force the data (through the menus). This has been frustrating. Hopefully we will overcome that with more time. Although the menus could be more intuitive, we (my wife and I) would still highly recommend it.

Best Forerunner Yet!

Rating:****
I use this product to measure time, distance, and heart rate while I run, hike, and bike.

Here's what I like: Innovative touch bezel, customized displays, rapid satellite acquisition, rapid reliable connection with HR strap, wireless transfer of data, and nice training software.

Here's what I don't like: shape of wrist band and length of wrist band. I recommend you try the device on before purchasing. The length and shape are acceptable for me but probably won't be for everyone.

A neat feature of this product is its' ability to overlay your course with Google Earth and show you where you've been.

I would definitely recommend this device to a friend.

Awesome Watch!

Rating:*****
I use this for running and it is spot on. It quickly picks up the signal (less than 20 seconds) and very reliable as far as pacing. It automatically uploads to the computer and the net in a matter of seconds. There are LOTS of options so play around with it to set it up with the way you want it to work. It's definitely worth the money and a great motivational tool too.

never get lost

Setting up workouts is a little bit tricky. Need a Vista compatable program. The "on the computer" log won't let you adjust the results when you try to correct a mistake in programming.
Never loose your parking spot at stadiums. Just back track to the saved location where you parked!!

Perfect!

Strongly recommend it, specially for runners.

Negative Reviews:

Great ONLY for OUTDOOR Running!

Rating:*
I was so excited to have one watch to do it all! Wrong! The Garmin 405 does not track calories unless you are running or use the foot pod! So if you want to track calories in the gym lifting weights, aerobics, yoga, elliptical rider, stair machine or on a bike it does you no good. Also the Heart Rate Monitor will not connect to most equipment in the gyms. Which means you need up have to hold on to those germ infested handles to get your heart rate on the tread mills and other exercise equipment. I am very disappointed in this watch! It is great for Running! The GPS is really quick and that part of it is nice. But with google maps and stuff it is easy to find out how far your run was. The program that comes with the watch is very BACIS that you load on your PC! I am very unimpressed with it. The online program is very SLOW to use! It has been down a couple of days not sure if they are still working on it? The watch is very complex so if you are not good at electronics it’s not the watch for you. I would say I am an average techie and it took me some time to get it up and running. I bet I have played with it for 5 to 6 hours to really get to know how to use it. So it’s not the easiest thing to use. I think the foot pod is neat and a great idea (get real another 119.00 for it?), but I just can not get over that this watch does not track calories unless you are doing a running activity. Also most gym equipment now you can record your exercise with an USB thumb stick, so in that case you would not need the foot pod, unless you are running on an indoor track or something. I am not sure if the Garmin data will interchange with the gyms equipment data. I would bet not they seam they want to make it so you have to use there own stuff. I am returning my watch! I will wait till the next model comes out to see if it is any better. My 100.00 (and that includes the HR monitor that links up to exercise equipment) Polar watch can do everything this watch can do expect the GPS.Pros-Amazing quick GPS, and Mapping Program Cons-Lack of Calories Tracking, Heart Rate Monitor, Over Priced especially with added accessories Foot Pod, and Heart Rate Monitor. If you want this watch for outdoor running, and are good with electronics this is the watch for you!
