Cloudveil Zorro Jacket

I used this jacket for three weeks in alaska this summer. it was absolutely FANTASTIC. water never seeped through once. not even in torrential rain. one day we hiked 15 miles in rain with fog so thick you couldnt see 10 feet in front of you and i was dry. however the reason it did not get a 5 was because just recently the stitching ripped on the left pit zip as i was trying to open it. however, again, the gearhead is set me up with a return and a full refund so all is well.

I have not experienced the problems others have with this jacket. It breaths well enough for a H2O proof coat and the pit zips are the factor that sold me on it. the cut is great and the hood fits and adjusts well. Its doesn't rain much here in CO so I have not been able to test that aspect but for high altitude backcountry skiing in spring/summer/fall it does the job well.

Just got it in the mail and it's exactly what i wanted. Haven't fully tested it yet as it's a little chilly to wear right now, but plan to as soon as it gets a bit warmer.

It does it job, keeps water away from your body within a few hours. However I felt like there was a puddle in my pockets. The water permeated within time and I was a bit angry with the product. So then I gave it to my uncle who loves it. But he just wears it because of the color. I mean it does good in the City. But I would definitely go with a waterproof rating of over 10k.

Two jackets are down with ... the first was the left pitzip that total blew out after 3 days of use ... The second jacket I got, the button broke and popped off within a week. So, DON'T BUY THIS SHITTY JACKET! I would go for Patagonia's Rainshadow if I had to do it over again. Cloudveil has sold out just like the town it says it comes from ...

The good:
For a cheap jacket this one has a nicely athletic cut, and nice features like pitzips, well contoured adjustable hood and nicely done cuffs.
The bad:
The fabric wets through in under an hour, the fabric wears quickly, and the stitching frays.

Not a bad jacket- but not great either.Good fit and finish, but usability is marred by poor quality components, especially the zippers.Nice fit and finish, waterproof fabric is well lined and well protected, especially considering the light weight.Nice for walking around town- waterproof enough for any reasonable rainfall, but not for a torrential downpour.I wouldn't take it into the backcountry (read: trust my life to it in a survival situation) for this reason:the zippers are too "light-duty";they need to be a heavier gauge and more durable. They also tend to snag on the surrounding fabric and hang up/jam. My impression: made more for fashion, and less for serious outdoor use.I'll use it going back and forth to work only.

Got this jacket after reading reviews on other sites. The 1st one I got the thread around the collar broke, this is due to the new hook and loop closure tugging very hard on the carpet. 2nd one (great RMA and phone order system) kept me bone dry on a day of spring skiing in Washington. It also kept me dry working in the woods during memorial day weekend. So the cloudburst fabric definitely works. But then one of the pit zips frayed in the zipper backing nylons. So I had to use the great RMA of this site.
Great material, Cloudveil just need to use better zipper and thread parts.

on the whole, this jacket does what it's supposed to do, given what it is. Pros: waterproof in any normal rainstorm- but it's not meant for a survival outing in a torrential downpour. Adequately waterproof for normal wear.Lightweight,and better made than I would have expected.Fit and finish is 8 out of 10. Well lined. Cons: the zippers on this thing are a weak point. Seems like it's made more for fashion than real outdoor use. They should have used a heavier gauge zipper- these are prone to snagging on the the surrounding fabric, and they're just too light-duty.IMHO good for around-town wear, but not to trust in the back country.
