  • Shimano Deore and SRAM X-7 derailleurs perform smoothly as you shift through the full 27-speed drivetrain with the snappy SRAM X-5 trigger shifters
  • Avid Juicy 3 hydraulic disc brakes deliver excellent stopping power with their 160mm rotors

2008 F4

Rating:****
I bought a 2008 F4. Some of the Pro's: light weight (I have an X frame and it is lighter than my GF's XS bike we bought the same day, her's is a different brand). I like that the head shock is adjustable from the riding position, easy to use, it also seems to handle well. Shifts very well, without the clunkyness of cheaper componets.

Con's: I found that the seat post had a tendency to slide back into the frame. To fix this I ended up really torqueing the screw in place to prevent this from happening further. Brakes: while the brakes work well they do have a tendency to squeel. After 10 months it hasn't gone away. The seat is not really comfortable. I plan on swapping that out. All of the con's were thing's I had seen by other reviewers on other websites and I agree with them. Overall I really enjoy the bike. I tested different well known brands, at several shops. The Cannondale F4 was the first one I got on and it felt like it fit me right from the start. I am 6'2" and weigh around 220. I use this bike for some light off road stuff, and as ride to work with it 2-4 times a week depending on weather. Cannondale still makes frames in the US, lower end one's are made some where else. This one was made outside of the US. As for the 2009 I could not say.

With any bike test it before you buy it, test several and go to different shops. Don't buy on price alone.

Cannondale F4

I have been looking to upgrade my 2001 sporting goods store MTB (Diamondback) for about a year. I recently began pulling my 1 and 3 year old children in a dual trailer. Both bicycle and trailer were needing replacement.

I researched different bicycles and found what I wanted in this bicycle (hydraulic disc brakes, lockout (easy lockout verses difficult) of the front shock, weight and size). I sized this bicycle verses more so then the last, and I think this made a huge difference.

It fit my pricepoint given that I was upgrading the trailer (to a Chariot), too. I am able to effectively double my mileage. I have yet to venture on moderate singletrack, but the F4 is working out great.

The only con is the seat (seems common). I will give it this summer and replace it in the fall if I am finding I don't like it.

I will probably get a second set of wheels for paved riding to decrease the rolling resistance of the knobbies (it sounds like a semi on the interstate).

Great Bike

I bought a 2009 model in Black from my local bike store about a month ago and have been riding it on local trails at least 3 times a week since. It has performed very well. The shifting is excellent, the brakes are great and I find it very comfortable. Other than having it tuned up a few days ago the only thing I have done to it (besides the normal cleaning/lubing) is to add a chain slap guard to the frame. I highly recommend this bike to anyone looking for a well build,[...]hardtail.

Perfect For The Avid Trail Rider

Rating:*****
As an avid trail rider, I have found this bike perfect right off the showroom floor - except for the pedals. I put some Shimano PD-M540's on it and have been tearing up the trails every since!!!
