Top Notch

great leash...slide secure works well and is reliable...padded wrist is comfy...the best thing is the leash length...long enough to effectively switch hands on the axe when traversing a steep slope without having to swap which hand the leash is on...that is key...inexpesive option to prevent a drastic mistake of watching your piolet slide down a thousand feet or into a slope leaving you high and dry

Simple and it works.

Nice no-frills leash that does exactly what it is supposed to. Can be adujusted in a long or short style leash, and the padding around the wrist end is nice. I was a little worried about the metal slide adjustment, but so far is works smooth. Ill report back if that changes over time.

Worth the 15 bucks.

Rating:*****

Way worth the 15 bucks. I usually tie my axe into my harness, but there are occasions when I want to leash up to the wrist. It is very easy to adjust for length, and comfortable even on an ungloved wrist. Toss the tied webbing and get a leash!

Easy and Comfy!

Rating:*****
Easy to put wrist through even with gloves on. Very comfortable and light. I had a small fall that made me instinctively put my hands out and lost grip in an instant. Thanks to the leash I was able to reset without missing a beat. Handy in the dark!

Great for general mountaineering

Rating:*****

Very nice basic leash. Stick it on you mountaineering axe and you will be happy. No much to say otehr than it is pretty light, easy to use and comfortable. Trim it to length after installation to save a gram or two.

Ok, but there are better solutions.

Rating:***

This is an alright leash, but all told, its a bit of a fussy solution to a simple problem. I found the leash to be a little tricky to operate with mittens on, and the cinch sometime resists being released. My solution was just to sacrifice some security and not cinch it down, otherwise hand-changes take too much time. A bungee would work just as well, and I've also seen this clipped to the harness instead of the hand, avoiding the switch problem altogether.

Slider leash

Rating:***
This leash has a tube slider that is either too slippery (if you use it a lot) or too hard to slide (if you don't use it very much or if it gets icy). If slippery, it doesn't stay cinched as you climb; if stiff, you can't get it to cinch down or open. On vertical ice, this gets tiresome. J.

Eh - last review got it right. There are better options.

Rating:***

This is clearly not a leash for vertical ice climbing - way too fussy and difficult.

Even for alpine axes, it's kind of a pain, though it is light and simple. Mandatory two-hand operation, and sometimes it can essentially become frozen shut and then require a lot of force to release.
